This study was conducted to determine the JHS (Junior High School) science teachers’ perspectives, practices, and challenges in teaching atomic structure in selected public JHS. A survey method was employed, and the quantitative and qualitative results showed that the teacher-respondents had good perspectives, were proficient in the subject matter, and were eager to teach the concept properly. The use of visual aids/models, hand-outs/printed materials, and video lessons/presentations to teach atomic structure is the teachers’ choice and is an invaluable learning material and tool in teaching the atomic structure to JHS students. The main challenges in teaching are the students' low interest and background and the lack of resources and training among teachers on the topic. There is a need for enhanced pedagogical tools, strategies, and skills, as well as training for teachers to support the atomic structure teaching and learning development and progress.
2024-08-21T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Matthew Dela Cruz, Almario Baltazar Jr. , Marie Franz Chua, Mieraflor Estrella, Eleonor Basiliohttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/39INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN FACILITATING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS2024-08-21T04:01:06+00:00Suroso suroso.jos@gmail.comKurniah Astutikkurniahastutik99@gmail.comHudson Sidabutarhudsonsidabutar26@gmail.com
Effective communication is a key element in creating a productive and conducive learning environment. This research uses the literature study method to analyze the impact of teachers' communication competence and classroom culture on the learning process. The study revealed several important findings. First, teachers' ability to deliver material clearly and listen to students actively can increase students' participation and engagement in the classroom. Second, respect for learners' socio-cultural backgrounds can prevent misunderstanding and create an inclusive learning atmosphere. Third, emotional support from teachers has been proven to increase students' motivation to learn and help minimize behavioral problems in the classroom. Therefore, teachers' communication competence needs to be continuously improved to maximize the learning process.
2024-08-21T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Suroso , Kurniah Astutik, Hudson Sidabutarhttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/145DESIGN-BASED THINKING INTENTIONS AMONG SECONDARY STUDENT-TEACHERS: IMPLICATIONS TO INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY2024-07-17T08:52:52+00:00Laarni Canarelccanare@bpsu.edu.phRyan Pecsonrrpecson@bpsu.edu.phLeandro Olubialtolubia@bpsu.edu.phMonina Romeromsromero@bpsu.edu.phAdraneda Gemmagcadraneda@bpsu.edu.ph
As future educators, student-teachers must execute the needed deliverables as instructional implementers. However, many still need help once deployed in their respective cooperating schools due to the strenuous tasks they need to do, especially in selecting, designing, developing, and evaluating learning resources. With that in mind, the primordial intention of the study is to examine the design-based thinking intentions among secondary student-teachers deployed in various secondary schools in the divisions of Bataan and Balanga City and implicate the results to instructional delivery. It specifically examines the profile of student-teachers in terms of sex, area of specialization, and location of cooperating school; determines the design-based thinking intentions of student-teachers in terms of understanding (empathizing and defining), exploring (ideating and prototyping), and materializing (testing and implementing); and determines the implications of the findings to effective instructional delivery. Using the descriptive-developmental design of quantitative research, the data are gathered from 172 out of 199 student-teachers under the College of Education (COEd) who are randomly selected. The primary data-gathering tool used in the study is an adopted survey questionnaire. The quantitative data gathered from the study will be analyzed using descriptive statistics (i.e., frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (i.e., T-test and F-test/ANOVA). The results indicate that most respondents are female, majoring in Filipino, English, and Social Studies, and deployed in rural schools. The student-teachers exhibit a high level of design-based thinking intentions across all domains. Also, significant differences are noted in the design-based thinking intentions of student-teachers when grouped according to their profile.
2024-08-21T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Laarni Canare, Ryan Pecson, Leandro Olubia, Monina Romero, Adraneda Gemmahttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/144STATE OF PREPAREDNESS OF KENYA’S PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES TOWARDS DELIVERY OF COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULUM2024-07-15T19:03:16+00:00Paul Okeyo Ogembopaulogembo1256@gmail.com
Competency based curriculum (CBC) is a new dispensation in Kenya on its gradual replacement of 8:4:4 System of Education. The first cohort being in Grade Eight, Kenyan public universities seem not to be having measures in place towards its delivery. It is against this backdrop that this paper was purposed to assess the state of preparedness of Kenya’s Public Universities towards delivery of CBC.Specifically the paper sought to establish lecturers’ readiness for implementation of CBC;to establish universities’ infrastructural and curricula material preparedness toward implementation of CBC;to establish whether Kenya’s Public university schools of education are already preparing the teacher trainees towards teaching CBC programs and to establish Faculties’ attitudes towards CBC programs delivery. The study was underpinned by Concern Based Model by Hall et.al (2006). The study explored empirical literature through meta-analytical approach. The study established that: universities are not materially and infrastructural ready for implementation of CBC; That most lecturers are not ready for implementation of CBC; that many public universities are not yet training their teachers towards delivery of CBC programs; That university faculties have positive attitudes toward CBC programs. The findings have implications on universities and other stake holders to prepare lecturers for CBC, university management to look for means within their reach to help in funding and develop CBC curricula materials and infrastructure for its effective delivery, schools of education to develop teacher training curricula with CBC integration.
2024-08-21T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Paul Okeyo Ogembohttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/157TEACHER STRATEGIES IN MANAGING STUDENTS' LEARNING INTEREST IN THE INDEPENDENT CURRICULUM2024-08-21T08:56:08+00:00Dina Destaridina.desari@uinsi.ac.idErna Adita Kusumawatiernaaditak@stikesmhk.ac.idIsmaul Fitrohismaulfitroh@ung.ac.idRhisty Frida Utamirhisty.frida@gmail.com
This research examines the strategies used by teachers in managing students' learning interest in the context of the Independent Curriculum through a review of relevant literature. The Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes flexibility and freedom of learning, requires teachers to apply innovative and adaptive approaches in order to motivate and optimize students' potential. Through analysis of various literature sources, this research identified three main effective strategies: (1) Differentiated Learning, which adapts learning activities to each student's abilities and learning style to ensure full engagement; (2) Professional Development, where teachers actively improve skills and knowledge through ongoing training and involvement in professional communities; and (3) Inclusive Learning Environments, which create classrooms that support diversity and facilitate the development of students' social and emotional skills. The conclusion of this research shows that the application of these strategies by teachers can significantly increase students' interest in learning, create a more dynamic learning environment, and support the achievement of better learning outcomes within the Independent Curriculum framework. Despite various initiatives to improve the quality and relevance of vocational education, educational institutions still struggle with a less dynamic curriculum, limited infrastructure, and lack of collaboration with industry. As a result, vocational education graduates are often unprepared for the fast-changing and highly-skilled world of work. This challenge calls for a comprehensive reform of the vocational education system, involving the integration of 21st century skills such as adaptability, collaboration, critical thinking and digital literacy into the curriculum. It is also necessary to encourage strong partnerships between educational institutions and the industrial world to create a curriculum that is relevant and in line with labour market needs. In addition, the application of modern technology in the learning process, comprehensive training for teaching staff, and the development of high-quality vocational centres need to be prioritised. With consistent and coordinated reforms, vocational education in Indonesia is expected to be able to act as the main pillar in supporting the availability of competent and qualified human resources, and be able to compete at the global level. This will require close collaboration between government, industry and educational institutions to address the 21st century skills challenges and contribute to the nation's economic and social development.
2024-08-31T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Loso Judijanto, Hasdiana Hasdiana, Ulin Naini, Al-Aminhttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/43ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF INTERACTIVE LECTURE METHOD IN ENGLISH TEACHING IN ASAHAN2023-01-21T03:32:19+00:00Sahmiral Amri Rajagukguksahmiralamri@gmail.comDiah Safithri Armindiahsafithriarmin@uinsu.ac.idAnggun Siska Pratiwianggunsiskapratiwi971@gmail.com
This study examines elementary school students' perceptions of the interactive lecture method of teaching English in SDN 015860 Rawang Baru, Asahan. One of the problems that emerged was the drastic increase in dropout rates among children from underprivileged families. The economic impact leads to the inability of families to fulfil basic needs, including the cost of their children's education. As a result, many students have to leave school to help the family economy or because parents lose their jobs and income. To address this problem, a comprehensive solution involving various parties is needed. Financial support in the form of education subsidies can help ease the burden of school fees. In addition, improving the quality and access to better education facilities will provide fairer learning opportunities for all students. The implementation of technology in education is also an important step to ensure flexible access to learning, especially for those who are physically challenged to attend school. Collaboration between the government, educational institutions, NGOs and communities is crucial in creating an enabling environment for children to continue their education amidst the economic crisis. With concerted efforts, it is hoped that the dropout rate can be reduced and children can continue to get proper educational opportunities.
2024-09-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Dede Gustian , Deisye Supit, Arnadi Arnadihttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/92ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE CLASSROOM: INNOVATION OR DISRUPTION IN EDUCATION2023-11-11T17:37:09+00:00Risqah Amaliah Kasman risqahamaliahkasman@itkpi.ac.idLoso Judijantolosojudijantobumn@gmail.comElmiwati Elmiwatielmiwati@staimutanjungpinang.ac.id
These days, artificial intelligence (AI) is regarded as one of the most revolutionary technologies and consequently, its application is evident in various industries, education inclusive. Proper use of technology can greatly increase student interest and participation in learning. Students become more motivated and active in class when technology is used well and students' grades and problem-solving skills also improve. However, this success depends on several important factors, such as teachers' ability to use technology, students' access to devices and the internet, and support from the school. While there are some challenges, such as the risk of distractions and online safety issues, the benefits of using technology in education far outweigh them. It follows, then, that technology, when used appropriately, can be a highly effective tool for improving the quality of education at the K-12 level. It is important for schools and educators to develop good strategies for integrating technology into their curriculum to maximise students' learning potential in this digital age.
2024-11-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Miftahul Jannahhttps://injoe.org/index.php/INJOE/article/view/172THE ROLE OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE2024-11-09T07:40:27+00:00Cynthia Petra Haumahupetrahaumahu@gmail.comChamidatur Rohmahhamidahrahmah34@gmail.comAl-Aminal.amin-2024@feb.unair.ac.id
Emotional intelligence has an influence on leadership effectiveness in the educational context. Pancasila, especially the second principle, emphasizes the importance of a just and civilized humanitarian attitude, but its implementation among students still faces challenges such as intolerance and individualism. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this study collects data from in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies of Mega Buana University students. The results of the study indicate that students' understanding of the values of humanity in Pancasila is still diverse, and its application in everyday life is influenced by social, educational, and campus cultural environmental factors. The integration of human values in academic and extracurricular activities has been shown to have a positive impact in shaping the character of students who are more caring, fair, and socially responsible. This study concludes that the integration of human values in the curriculum and campus activities needs to be improved to form a generation of students based on the values of Pancasila, especially in facing today's social challenges.
2024-11-16T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Seriyanti Seriyanti, Ilyas Ilyas, Aqila Afifah L, Muh.
